Installing fuel shutoffs

Leaky petcocks revisited: Fur as I'm concerned, Yamahahahah has stopped making parts for the petcocks (CBMMA edict). Why bother trying to fix 'em? Just install the beautiful in-line shut-offs from Dennis Kirk for $10 each (the ones with the big retaining nut). Get some 1/4" tubing, 1" x 1" X 8" aluminum L material, and mount these little shut-offs on top of each carb (2 screws used to hold the cap on also hold the L-bracket).

The modification took me all of 3 hours, and I worked very slowly and carefully. I only had one piece of L-bracket at hand, and being a CBMMA member, I was NOT going out to buy any more! Therefore, I took my time shaping the bracket flanges to fit the curve of the carb-top covers - one left, one right, and drilling the 2 small mounting holes and the big hole for the shut-off to attach to each bracket. Before you actually make the big mounting holes, dry-run install the plumbing to see how all the tubing will fit. Believe me - it's a TIGHT fit under the edges of the tank and under the petcocks! The biggest problem I had was interference with the vacuum line at the petcocks.

You will love the way the new shut-offs work and look (handles have bright red plastic covers), you keep the reserve function, and you don't have to touch the handles on the Yamama petcocks again except to go on reserve or prime. I just got tired of throwing away fresh oil because it was half gasoline! :)
