Change over is pretty easy. In the text, "old" refers to the mechanical igniton components and "new" refers to the electronic components.
- Double check info prior to starting job.
- Basically remove the old point plate from the bike to be converted and replace with the new electronic pickups and plate from the donor bike.
- Mount the new ignition module somewhere.
- On the donor bike, slit the new harness from pickups to ignition module to coils.
- Number your new coil wires.
- From the pickups yellow, orange and red are feed to the ignition module, black is ground from the ignition module.
- Out of ignition module, grey, yellow and orange are the negative triggers to the coil.
- Connect the red/white (all red/white in the donor harness are connected) from the donor (at coil to the existing brown wire of the coil harness).
- Black from module goes to ground.
- Cut the light blue existing neutral switch wire.
- Attach the switch side to the dark blue into module.
- Attach the light side to the light blue from module.
- Tape over the new ignition harness as independently from existing as possible.
- Tape over any unused wires from existing harness.
- Solder all wire connections, do not use scotch locs, wire tie as necessary.
- Try to make as much of your new ignition harness before removing from donor bike.
If you are in the Jersey City area and have the bikes side by side and are afraid to attempt, I'll donate my time if you donate the pizza.
