Hey Redman.

where does the "reverse race shift pattern" come from?

"Normal" rear sets simply duplicate the original pattern but move it back [ as far as you want].

In MY day [ 60's ] you couldn't just buy rear sets off the shelf - so the deal was to simply turn the gear shift lever through 180 degrees [ 'ish ]. THAT DID reverse the change pattern - add to that Brit bikes of the era had the shifter on the RIGHT side of the bike................. Now try getting used to that!.
