Subject: Newbie can't figure out an oil leak, please help!

I just got my first xs750 to run, and now it turns out it has a pretty bad oil leak. When the bike is sitting, or even after idling for several minutes, no oil leaks at all. After riding it however, a lot of oil pours out onto the kickstand, and around the clutch cable linkage. At first I thought it was a crankcase gasket issue, but after searching this site I figured it may be coming from the top of the engine, and leaking down past the starter. I replaced the starter o-ring, and left the starter cover off so I could see where the leak was coming from if it still existed. The leak still exists, and it appears to be coming from the bottom of the crankcase breather box (not the hose), or from the cap where you add oil, or possibly the cylinder head itself. Any thoughts on where to start?
