I just got my 80 850 special put back together from a few carb conundrums, and when I go to fire it up, It starts smooth as ever when choked, but then BOOM a backfire that rivals the sound of my 30-06. It still runs and idles, but then BOOM it happens again. The motor is making a valve chatter sound, and I was wondering if this sounds like a stuck valve, or a coil that's intermittent. I just dont know where to go from here The exhaust pipes on the bike are rusted out in more than a few places, would the lack of exhaust be to blame? I am trying to get the bike running at least decent before i stick a bunch of money into it, but I don't want to keep having problems because i am cheap either. Please just let me know what you think should be my plan of attack from here.
