They have 4 wires. For testing, I hooked them up thusly:

-Power wire to key on power
-Ground to...ground
-Wire next to positive (signal wire) to pulsed positive (I pulsed the positive by touching this wire to the positive battery lead and releasing it)
-Last wire was not hooked up for the test, and didn't seem to matter

Although bench testing these coils worked, I couldn't figure out how to make the stock ignition module give them a pulsed 12 volt signal. I don't have an oscilloscope.

The 1 inch long spark I got was from the coil output to the negative battery terminal while I was testing it. I just wanted to see how powerful the coils were. The answer is FAR more powerful than the stock coils.
